Damian's Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

On 29th September 2023, I will attempt something that I would have scarcely contemplated just a few years ago, when I was paralysed from the neck down in a cycling accident, and left disabled as a result of a spinal cord injury.

I will attempt to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, over a three-day period, aiming to climb one summit each day, within a total walking time of under 24 hours. 

This is longer than a marathon, and involves over 2,100m of climbing. I will do this on crutches, supported by four good friends. I have been training for several months, but this remains the toughest physical challenge I will ever undertake. Those of you who know me well, will know I not shy of tests of stamina!

 

I am raising money for Back Up - the charity for people affected by spinal cord injury. Please help me to smash my fundraising target for this vital organisation.

 

For over 30 years, Back Up have helped people and their families to rebuild their independence after a spinal cord injury. Their award-winning services challenge the perceptions of what's possible and help to increase skills and confidence.

 

Back Up are here for people in their darkest hours, so they get back up to living life to the full. They were there for me after I left hospital, and supported me through the Covid lockdowns, when NHS services were fully stretched.

Now I need to be there for them. Please stand with me.
