Climbing the O2 for Back Up

As a team of friends and family we are braving a climb up and over the O2 stadium in London on 11th June. The climb is a whopping 170 feet high and we are climbing to raise funds for The Back Up Trust!

My story

Louise’s story: 25 years ago my life changed forever!

At the age of 19 and 22 weeks pregnant I had a bleed in my spinal cord that left me paralysed from the waist down. After a short stay in rehab I came home and my daughter was born.

Being a new mum and adapting to life in a wheelchair was extremely challenging, and I felt quite isolated from the world until two things happened - 1. I joined a mother and baby group and made life long friends and 2. I found Back Up!

Back up encouraged me to join a multi activity course in the Lake District. This was with other people with spinal cord injuries and the activities challenged me to see that there really was life after a spinal cord injury!!

Since then I have challenged myself with further education, going out and socialising and landing myself a pretty good career!

Alongside my husband, daughter and wonderful friends made through the baby group all those years ago, we are now challenging ourselves to climb the O2 to raise funds for Back Up so that many more people can receive the support I had to help rebuild their lives!

For over 30 years, Back Up have helped people and their families to rebuild their independence after a spinal cord injury. Their award-winning services challenge the perceptions of what's possible and help to increase skills and confidence.

Back Up are here for people in their darkest hours, so they get back up to living life to the full.
